Rural tourism planning strategy using SOAR methods: a study of Sumberkima tourist village in Bali, Indonesia

Abstract
Purpose – This study aims to develop a planning and development strategy for Sumberkima Village using the SOAR method.
Methodology – This research used qualitative research approach. Data have been primarily collected through direct observation and interviews backed by secondary literature. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data then analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques.
Findings – SOAR method is very useful for developing tourism strategy. Sumberkima village has strengths. The potential that exists in Sumberkima Village is Munduk Lingker Hill, Gili Putih Beach, Village Forest in the Tukad Salak Area. The opportunities to develop other positive activities. In terms of Aspiration, local leaders have aspirations for improving infrastructure for activities such as ATV adventures, cycling tours, fishing pond tours, and Results means achieving the desired results All respondents agreed that tourism development in the village is aimed at improving the local community's economy. The results of this study are very useful for policymakers in formulating tourism development policies.
Originality – The originality of the study is placed on its evaluation of tourism village potential using SOAR methods. Research on the use of SOAR methods has been widely conducted in developed countries but yet widely carried out in developing countries, especially in villages on small islands.
