Aims and Scope

Welcome to official Journal of Rural Tourism (abreviation JRT), an international peer-reviewed journal that explicitly focuses on the interface rural tourism, sustainable development, local gastronoy, and community empowerment. We seek articles with clear evidence of this interaction, and articles that are not related to rural tourism will not be considered. This journal equally encourages scientists and professionals to publish original scientific papers, review articles, and short communication.

JRT welcomes articles that engage with a wide range of interdisciplinary approaches and critical perspectives on rural tourism, including (but not limited to) the following themes:

  • Social and Economic Impacts: Analysis of the effects of tourism on local community well-being, job creation, and changes in rural socio-economic structures.
  • Sustainability in Rural Tourism: Studies on natural resource management, environmental conservation, and the development of sustainable tourism practices in rural areas.
  • Innovation in Tourism Products and Services: Research on the development of diverse tourism offerings, including nature-based, cultural, agritourism, local gastronomy and ecotourism experiences.
  • Empowerment of Local Communities: Exploration of how tourism can empower local communities, encourage active participation, and strengthen cultural identities.
  • Policies and Management of Rural Tourism: Discussions on public policies, regulations, and managerial practices that support or hinder tourism development in rural areas.
  • Tourist Experience and Perceptions of Rural Destinations: Research on the motivations, behaviors, and perceptions of tourists toward rural destinations and their impact on travel decisions.
  • Transformation and Changes in Rural Tourism: Analysis of trends and dynamics in rural tourism patterns, as well as the challenges and opportunities arising from technological advancements and social changes.
  • Digital Technologies in Rural Tourism: Investigations into the role of digital technologies such as online platforms, virtual experiences, big data, and social media in enhancing rural tourism experiences, promoting destinations, and supporting local economies.

JRT invites contributions from researchers, academics, practitioners, and policymakers interested in exploring the potential and challenges of rural tourism and committed to promoting its development in a holistic and sustainable manner.

JRT accepts article submissions year-round and is published biannually, with issues released in June and December. Each issue features 5-10 carefully selected articles.
