Abstract

Gili Trawangan is one of the three Gili islands located in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. As one of the natural tourist destinations in Indonesia that has the beauty of its underwater nature and popular beaches. However, with the presence of tourism in Gili Trawangan, it experiences complex dynamics related to the influence of tourism on its sustainability. This article aims to analyze the impact of tourism on the sustainability of Gili Trawangan as a natural tourist destination. The method used by the author is library research and Focus Group Discussion, which is a research method carried out by collecting and analyzing data from various literatures, such as articles and journals that are relevant to the topic and group discussions. The results of the analysis show that tourism has an important role in the development of natural potential in Gili Trawangan. Utilization of natural potential in the form of beaches and coral reefs can provide significant benefits for the local economy and society. The growth of various sectors such as accommodation, restoration, and transportation can certainly create jobs for local people and increase economic activity that affects the income and welfare of local people. In addition, this development also encourages the development of infrastructure such as public facilities and transportation services that are beneficial for tourists and local people. However, the use of tourism to develop natural potential in Gili Trawangan also has negative impacts, such as excessive numbers of tourists (over capacity) which can cause pressure on natural resources and the environment as well as uncontrolled tourist activities.
